Can you print a photo as a sticker?

Yes. A photo straight from a recent phone usually has plenty of detail for a sticker a few inches across. The main choice is whether it's cut around the subject or printed in a shape like a circle or rectangle.

Yes, and the photo on your phone is usually more than big enough. A typical phone photo is around 4,000 pixels across. At 300 pixels per inch, that's enough for a sticker well over 10" wide, so a 2" to 4" sticker has detail to spare.

Send the original photo

A sharp photo usually turns blurry on its way to us, not in the camera:

  • Texting or messaging a photo usually shrinks it.
  • Screenshots and social media copies are much smaller than the original.
  • Emailing from a phone sometimes offers a smaller size. Choose Actual Size or the largest option.
  • Cropping in hard, like one face from a group shot, throws most of the pixels away. See what to do about low-resolution artwork to check what's left.

Send the photo as a JPG or PNG. Some phones save photos as HEIC files. If yours does, save or share a JPG copy instead.

Cut around the subject, or a shape?

Cut around the subject

Order Custom Stickers with the Custom shape, and we can usually take the background off and cut around your pet, person, or object, often with a white border. This works best when the subject stands out clearly from what's behind it. Tell us if anything else should stay in, like a leash, a toy, or a second pet.

Fur, hair, and other fine edges get smoothed into a clean outline, because a blade can't follow every wisp. A border hides that well, so a photo cut this way looks better with one than without.

Print it in a shape

Choose a Circle, Oval, Square, or Rectangle, or a rounded version, and the photo fills the shape, background and all. A shape suits scenery, group shots, and photos where the background is part of the moment. We carry the photo past the cut line so no white slips in at the edge.

Keep faces and anything important at least 0.09" in from the edge. See choosing a sticker shape.

What prints differently from the screen

A phone screen is lit from behind and a sticker isn't, so a dark or underexposed photo prints darker than it looks. If the photo looks dim on your phone, brighten it a little before you send it. See why screen and printed color differ.

Size the sticker to its smallest important detail. A group of six faces at 2" makes each face tiny. See what size your sticker should be.

See it before you order

On White or High-Tack vinyl, you can preview the sticker before you order with the optional "Live Sticker Proof". Upload one photo on a sticker product page, then press "Draw It Now" in the "See Instant Sticker Proof" box under the upload. For a shape, "Fill" runs the photo to the edge, and you can drag and pinch to choose what's in the frame. See how to use the Live Sticker Proof.

If you skip the live proof, or ask for changes on it, the proof we email shows the cut line and the background as we've set them up, before anything prints.
