Yes. Our stickers are sealed under a gloss or matte laminate, so water never reaches the ink. Rain, snow, splashes, a sweating cold drink, and a rinse under the faucet won't hurt them. That's as true of matte as of gloss, and of kiss-cut stickers as of die-cut ones.
Why they hold up
Vinyl doesn't soak up water the way paper does, and the laminate seals the print underneath it. So the face of the sticker is never the weak point. The edge is. That's where water can work its way under the adhesive if it gets the chance. Almost every way a waterproof sticker fails starts at an edge.
Waterproof doesn't mean indestructible
Three things will beat a waterproof sticker:
- Getting wet too soon. The adhesive keeps bonding for a day or two after it goes on, so give it 24 hours before it gets wet and 48 hours before anything scrubs it. See how long adhesive takes to set.
- Getting hit at the edge by a pressure washer. A jet aimed at an edge will lift any sticker, however well it's made. Keep the spray moving and off the edges.
- Living underwater. Stickers are made to get wet and dry off again. Something that sits soaking all the time isn't what they're for.
Our stickers are dishwasher safe too. See are stickers dishwasher safe?
Roll labels and Window Cling
Our Custom Roll Labels come in two materials, and they behave very differently around water:
- White Plastic BOPP is a plastic film that handles water and condensation, which is why it's the choice for anything that lives in a fridge, a cooler, or a shower.
- White Satin Paper isn't waterproof. Paper soaks up water, wrinkles, and lifts.
Roll labels and trade templates can also be ordered Unlaminated. Unlaminated paper takes pen, but it gives up the laminate's protection. See roll label materials: BOPP or paper.
Window Cling has no adhesive at all; it holds to glass by static. Put it on the inside of the glass where you can, out of the rain and wind. Tell us which side of the glass it goes on, and we set the artwork up the right way around. See how Window Cling works.
