How to set up your artwork for Sticker Sheets

Design the whole sheet at its finished size (4" × 6", 5" × 7", or 8.5" × 11"), with at least 1/8" between stickers and 1/4" from each sticker to the sheet edge. We add the cut lines if you haven't, and the background can print edge to edge.

Design the whole sheet yourself, at its finished size, and send it as one file. Make the artboard the size of the sheet you're ordering (4" × 6", 5" × 7", or 8.5" × 11"), and place every sticker on it where you want it. Keep at least 1/8" between stickers and at least 1/4" between each sticker and the sheet edge. If you haven't drawn the cut lines, we add them.

Materials

Sticker Sheets come in White, Clear, Holographic, and Chrome vinyl, with a gloss or matte finish. On Clear, Holographic, and Chrome, you also choose where white ink goes. Where white ink should go explains the choices.

Start with the sheet

Set your document to the sheet size in inches, not pixels. Everything on the artboard is what prints, at the size it's drawn: a sticker 1.5" tall on your artboard is a 1.5" sticker on the sheet.

We print the sheet as you lay it out. We don't rearrange designs or fill empty space, so the layout you send is the layout you get, and your proof shows it before anything prints.

How many stickers fit

Sheet Stickers included
4" × 6" Up to 12
5" × 7" Up to 16
8.5" × 11" Up to 30

More stickers than that on one sheet is a quote, so ask us before you order (getting a quote explains how). Each sticker should be at least 0.5" on its longest side. Anything smaller is hard to cut cleanly and hard to peel.

Spacing

  • 1/8" between stickers, measured cut line to cut line. Closer than that and the cuts start to run into each other, and the stickers are hard to peel cleanly.
  • 1/4" from every sticker to the sheet edge. The edge is cut too, and this keeps a sticker from being clipped by it.
  • 0.09" inside each cut for anything that must survive, like text and thin outlines. A cut can land a hair to either side of its line, so keep important detail away from it. Bleed and safe area explains why.

Cut lines

Each sticker gets a kiss cut: the blade goes through the sticker but not the backing, so each one peels off and the sheet stays in one piece.

  • If you've drawn them, draw each cut as a closed vector path with no fill, stroked in a spot color named exactly Kiss and set to overprint. Cut lines explains how, and what stops one working.
  • If you haven't, send the sheet as it is. We draw a cut around each sticker and you check it on your proof.

Either way, give each sticker its own closed shape. Two designs touching each other become one sticker.

A background across the sheet

The whole sheet can print, so you can put a color, a pattern, or a design behind and around the stickers. If you do, run the background 0.06" past the sheet edge on every side. We cut the sheet to size, and that extra keeps a thin white line from showing at the edge if the cut lands a fraction outside it.

If you'd rather the sheet stay plain white around the stickers, leave the background empty.

Resolution

Images on the sheet need about 300 DPI (pixels per inch) at the size they print, the same as any sticker. A sheet is several small stickers, and small text goes soft first. Low-resolution artwork shows how to check a file.

Sending it

  • One file for the whole sheet. A PDF or AI file is best, with fonts outlined and images embedded. Which file types to send lists the rest.
  • One layout per cart item. Every sheet on that item is the same sheet. Add a different layout to the cart as its own item.
  • A minimum of 25 sheets per layout. Sheets usually ship 3 to 5 business days after you approve your proof.

If you're unsure about your layout, send it and tell us what worries you. Your proof shows the finished sheet, with its cut lines, before anything prints.
