One run can print a different batch number on every bottle label, and a seal label over the cap shows whether a bottle has been opened. Both are common on spirits labels.

A number that changes on every bottle

This is variable data printing: the same design printed in one run, with a different number on each copy.

Adding sequential numbering, QR codes, or barcodes is an artwork change. We can help, so reach out for a quote. For a plain count, tell us the first number, and we count up from it for the quantity you order. Anything else comes as a spreadsheet, one row per label.

Design with the longest value in place, not the first. If the space fits "042" but the run reaches "12,480", the long numbers won't fit, and you find out at the end of the run.

Your spreadsheet is the source of truth. We print exactly what is in it, and the proof shows only the first entry. Check the list yourself before you send it.

Tamper seals

A seal label across the cap has to tear before the bottle opens, so a torn seal shows the bottle has been opened. A perforation gives the tear a clean, predictable line. We add a perforation on request: ask us before you order, and we'll quote it.

Three things decide whether a seal works:

  • Where the tear falls: mark the line in your artwork, or give us a measurement from the edge. We can't tell where a perforation goes from the design alone.
  • Text clear of the line: a perforation is a row of small cuts, and text sitting on it loses parts of letters. Keep text well away from the line.
  • The material: paper tears cleanly along a perforation. BOPP, a plastic film, resists more, and its torn edge is less crisp. If the tear is the point, say so, and we'll help you choose between Paper Roll Labels and BOPP Custom Roll Labels.

QR codes that work on a bottle

If a code points somewhere, such as a batch record or a tasting note, test it from the proof with a real phone before you approve. On Chrome Sheet Labels or Holographic Sheet Labels, put white ink behind the code, because a scanner can't read a code through shimmer.
