HVAC stickers almost always fall off because of the surface, not the print: a dirty unit, a cold or sweating surface, or a powder-coated cabinet. Each one is fixed before the sticker comes off its backing.
The film you can't see
A unit that's been outside for two years carries dust, pollen, and chalky, weathered paint. Adhesive bonds to that film instead of to the metal, so the sticker looks stuck and lifts within a month.
Wipe the exact spot with isopropyl alcohol, and let it dry. Don't use window cleaner, which can leave a film that keeps the adhesive from gripping. Cleaning takes thirty seconds, and it's the difference between a sticker that lasts and one that's gone in weeks.
Cold, and surfaces that sweat
Adhesive has to flow to bond, and cold adhesive doesn't flow. A sticker pressed onto a chilled line or a unit in January sits on the surface instead of bonding to it.
Warm the surface where you can, press firmly, and leave the sticker alone before anything stresses it. Adhesive builds most of its strength over the first day or two, not right away. Applying stickers in cold weather has more.
A surface that never dries defeats any pressure-sensitive adhesive, ours included. Apply the sticker when the unit is off and the spot is dry, or choose a dry surface nearby.
Surfaces that reject standard vinyl
Powder-coated cabinets and textured plastic housings are the usual problems. Our standard vinyl is made to peel off cleanly, and that works against you here.
High-Tack vinyl is the same print with a much stronger adhesive, made for rough, textured, and powder-coated surfaces. If stickers curl at a corner on one model of unit, High-Tack is the fix. Our HVAC stickers come in both: from 50 of a design on vinyl, or 100 on High-Tack vinyl. High-Tack vinyl has more.
Test before you commit
Put real material on your actual equipment before you order a full run. Our Sample Pack, coming soon, will have all six sticker materials, High-Tack included. Until then, a small first run does the job. For HVAC work, your own equipment is the only test that counts.
