Construction site stickers: common questions

Stickers for hard hats, heavy equipment, and scaffolding: what holds on rough surfaces, how long they last in the sun, and which finish takes a written inspection date.

By the Stickymade team · Updated

Will they stay on a hard hat outdoors?

Yes. Our stickers are vinyl with a protective laminate, which resists sun, water, and scratches. The print holds 3 to 5 years outdoors before it starts to fade. A hard hat spends its day in the sun, so expect the shorter end of that range.

Clean the spot before the sticker goes on, or the adhesive bonds to site dust instead of the shell. Hard hats, heavy equipment, and job site surfaces covers application.

Will they stick to rough or powder-coated equipment?

Yes, with High-Tack Stickers. Standard vinyl struggles on rough, textured, and powder-coated surfaces. High-Tack is the same print with a much stronger adhesive, made for those surfaces. If stickers have lifted at the corners on your equipment or scaffolding, that's the reason, and High-Tack is the fix. It's harder to remove and can leave residue, so use it where the sticker should stay.

Can we number equipment tags in sequence?

Yes. Our prices are for print-ready artwork, and adding sequential numbering, QR codes, or barcodes is an artwork change. We can help, so reach out for a quote. For plain sequential numbering, tell us the first number, and we count up from it for the quantity you order. Anything else comes as a spreadsheet, one row per tag. Check it before you send it, because we print exactly what is in it. More in inspection tags and equipment numbering.

Can inspectors write a date on them?

Yes. Choose matte for inspection and calibration tags. The matte laminate takes a ballpoint pen as well as a permanent marker, and it cuts glare. Gloss takes a permanent marker, but a pen only to a degree.

Do you print safety and warning stickers?

Yes. We print the stickers. The wording, and any standard it has to meet, are yours to supply. Send us the layout your inspector requires. If you'd rather we design it from a list of fields, that's design work, so ask us for a quote.

We send a proof first. A design we make for you never prints until you approve it. For your own layout, if we haven't heard back 36 hours after we send the proof, we may go ahead and print what it shows, so reply, or ask us to hold it.

What is the minimum order?

25 of a design on Custom Stickers and High-Tack Stickers, so one site or one machine is enough for an order. A sticker we design for you starts at 50 (100 on High-Tack vinyl). The price per sticker drops steeply as the quantity grows, which helps across a fleet.

How quickly can we get them?

Stickers ship 3 to 5 business days after you approve the proof. Rush is available for a fee. Free shipping on orders $75+.
